Release 16.15 - 2026-10-23#

Note

In this release, we do not provide Mroonga packages for Debian trixie for MySQL 8.4 and 9.7. Currently, the Mroonga packages for Debian trixie cannot be installed with MySQL 8.4 and 9.7 due to a dependency issue. For details, refer to https://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=120697. We will provide them again when this issue is resolved upstream.

Improvements#

Added support for the latest versions of the following RDBMSs#

  • MySQL Community Server 8.4 LTS (8.4.13)

  • MySQL Community Server minimal 8.4 LTS (8.4.13)

  • MySQL Community Server 9.7 LTS (9.7.4)

  • MySQL Community Server minimal 9.7 LTS (9.7.4)

Don’t register mroonga_command() by default#

[MDEV-41376][Reported by Roel Van de Paar]

mroonga_command() bypasses the privilege control of MySQL/MariaDB. So it should not be registered on a multi-user system that relies on privilege separation of accounts.

But install.sql and update.sql always registered it. Packages run them on install and upgrade, so a dropped mroonga_command() came back on upgrade.

This moves mroonga_command() registration to the new install_mroonga_command.sql. Users who need it can use the file manually.

However, we don’t drop existing mroonga_command() on upgrade because users may use it.

Fixes#

Fixed returning wrong result with index_merge intersection#

[GH-1264][Reported by kotaokubo-nd]

Mroonga returned wrong result with index_merge intersection as below:

CREATE TABLE items (
  id INT PRIMARY KEY,
  category CHAR(1),
  state CHAR(1),
  KEY category (category),
  KEY state (state)
) ENGINE = Mroonga DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8mb4;

INSERT INTO items
  WITH RECURSIVE seq(n) AS (SELECT 1 UNION ALL SELECT n + 1 FROM seq WHERE n < 254)
  SELECT n, '1', '0' FROM seq;
INSERT INTO items VALUES (255, '3', '1');
INSERT INTO items VALUES (256, '3', '0');

SELECT /*+ INDEX_MERGE(items category, state) */ *
  FROM items
 WHERE category = '3' AND state = '0';

Thanks#

Release 16.12 - 2026-10-02#

Improvements#

MariaDB 12.3 is now supported in this release#

Dropped support for the following RDBMSs#

They have reached EOL.

  • MariaDB 10.6 for Ubuntu 22.04

  • Percona Server 8.0 for AlmaLinux 8,9

Building Mroonga from source with MariaDB now requires a C++17-compatible compiler#

Fixes#

Fixed a buffer overflow with long mroonga_database_path_prefix#

[MDEV-41287][Reported by Yuelin Wang]

Setting a path that was too long in mroonga_database_path_prefix could cause a buffer overflow.

Fixed automatic creation of database directories for absolute mroonga_database_path_prefix#

The database directory could not be created automatically when an absolute path, such as “/var/lib/mroonga/”, was set for mroonga_database_path_prefix.

Fixed a heap buffer overflow on escaped string in table/index COMMENT parameter#

[MDEV-41285][Reported by Alice Sherepa][Found by Yuelin Wang]

Setting a escaped string such as “\x” in the COMMENT parameter could cause a heap overflow.

For example, the following SQL caused a heap buffer overflow:

CREATE TABLE t1 (c INT) ENGINE=Mroonga COMMENT='engine "InnoDB\\x"';

Fixed double processing of escape characters in index COMMENT parameters#

Escape characters were processed twice when set in index COMMENT parameters. For example:

  • “Token\Delimit” was parsed as “TokenDDelimit”

  • “x\ny” was parsed as “x”, a newline and “ny”

  • “TokenNgram(“loose_symbol”, true)” was parsed as “TokenNgram(” because the escaped “. Parameters after it were also ignored.
